4minute teases by not knowing how to count

1, 2, 3, 4, 4?

Debut girl group, 4minute, have unleashed the MV teaser and the full track for their debut single, “Hot Issue.” Although the song “Hot Issue” is a pleasant little diddy for it’s trendy rhythm and funky beat, 4minute feels uninspired with their After School and 2NE1 fusion style that Cube Entertainment likes to call “Candy Funky.” If they had come out sooner, this wouldn’t be such a “hot issue,” and they would be considered quite refreshing, but since their timing is off, they’re going to get a lot of criticism for “jocking” their style.

4minute consists of ex-Wondergirl Hyun-ah as the rapper, Ji-yoon (1990), Ga-yoon (1990), So-hyun (1994), and 19 year old Ji-hyun. Surprisingly Hyun-ah isn’t the leader despite her previous exposure, and that title goes to Ji-hyun, who was revealed early on. It’s hard to tell if these girls have any actual vocal ability, since “Hot Issue” is just a poppy dance song. However, a promotional video of member Ga-yoon covering Navi’s “Heart Damage“ showcases a fair amount of vocal prowess from the 1990 baby. Their debut stage will take place on Mnet M!Countdown on June 18th.

If you had low expectations like I did, you’ll enjoy them, but you won’t fall in love with 4minute for any longer than that.
