In a recent interview, rookie girl group 4Minute said that they would like to be recognized as a Kpop group that is incomparable to other girl groups.
4Minute stated that they don’t want to approach the fierce competition between the girl groups with the materialistic attitude that they have to be the greatest and most popular girl group among the others. 4Minute actually doesn’t identify it as a competition or rivalry between the other girl groups. Instead, they strive and focus on being a group that has distinct qualities that other groups don’t have. Basically, 4Minutes’ goal isn’t to be known as the top group in the “girl group battle.” Their ultimate goal is to be acknowledged as a group that is one of a kind with a style and feel that makes it unfeasible for people to compare them to the other girl groups in the Kpop music industry. Their own way of saying that they're "unique."
The way I see it, 4Minute is looking at the “girl group battle” the best way they can. I’m sure it’s more than tough being a rookie group up against the Kpop juggernaut that is Girls’ Generation and the super hype machine known as 2NE1. They seem to be doing pretty good so far though, despite the fact that they have such strong competition. For the most part, 4Minute has a healthy attitude towards their competition. At least a lot healthier than the way I feel right now (note to self: stay away from bar food for the next few weeks). Let’s hope that 4Minute’s career isn’t like bar food.
