Japanese students fall in love with Lee Seung-gi and Han Hyo-joo

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Many fervent viewers poured out their comments about the show on the viewers’ board for “The Shining Inheritance.” And it is worth noting that a majority of these viewers were high-school students and young people in their twenties and thirties. This is quite unexpected because in the past, Hallyu fans were mostly composed of women in their forties. This could be because “The Shining Inheritance” was broadcast in March, overlapping with spring break for students. As the Japanese school year starts in April with the spring break in March, it was possible to lure middle school, high school and college students on their school breaks to the front of television sets. For “Hallyu Alpha”, it is encouraging that they turned the younger generation — who had previously thought that “Hallyu is just something that older ladies like” — into Hallyu drama fans.
“Hallyu Alpha” has been showing medical drama “New Heart” since April 1, after which MBC TV series “The Last Scandal of My Life,” starring actor Jung Joon-ho and the late actress Choi Jin-sil will air. With Korean blockbuster “IRIS” (starring Lee Byung-hun and Kim Tae-hee) and “Hard To Say I Love You” (starring Hero Jaejoong) lined up for the second half of the year, can it be said that the new generation of Korean Wave has already begun? We hope that “Hallyu Alpha” will build a strong foundation for the new round of Korean Wave.

Shining Inheritance is a success in Japan

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Shining Inheritance which starred Lee Seung Gi and Han Hyo Joo was one of the most popular dramas of 2009 in Korea.

It has spread its wings to other countries and now a hit in Japan.

On the 24th, the drama rating (title was altered to Brilliant Inheritance for Japan) reached 9.7% and was number 1 in its timeslot. The episode was the part where the two main characters share their first kiss, which was very popular in Korea as well.

When the episode ended, there were many positive comments on Fuji TV’s site, such as, “The kiss scene was very cool.”, and “I can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode.”

A representative from Fuji TV stated, “The average ratings for that timeslot (2PM) are around 4~5%. We were thus surprised when the rating almost hit 10%.”

Congratulations to the drama and especially Lee Seung Gi and Han Hyo Joo, whose promotional trip earlier this month to Japan must have helped a bit in boosting ratings.

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Han Hyo Joo to Make Her Singing Debut ...well, not a debut as in becoming a formal artist per se, but Han Hyo Joo will be singing a few songs for her new music drama project titled "Soul Special" with Branded Entertainment.

"I have sung once in public at the 'Soul Special' showcase, but I'm not a professional singer so I was thinking that it might be a discourtesy for me to sing," she said with a smile. She also added, "I hope that everyone will just be nice about my singing."

Now, a little background info about this upcoming music drama, "Soul Special." This drama depicts the relationship of a man and a woman who are in show business. Han Hyo Joo will star as Jin Mia, who is a singer/songwriter. Others on the cast include Lee Chae-young, will take on the role of Min Sae-hee who is a hotelier and Kim Dong-wook will portray Mia's significant other.

This music drama will air around the end of October, and will be 60 minutes long, 5-minute previews of it will also be posted on Cyworld every Tuesday and Thursday starting from September 29th.

Come on... Han Hyo Joo singing? In a drama? This is definitely a must-see. But what do you guys think about her singing in this drama?

Lee Da Hae to Replace Han Hyo Joo for Chuno

Posted by Nez 0 comments

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Han Hyo Joo had given up her leading role for upcoming KBS drama "Chuno," also known as Pursuing Servants. Maybe it's cause she has too much on her plate at once. Or is it because she decided to leave her management company? Anywho, the Chuno production team has been scouting for a new lead actress, and guess what? Word on the block is that Lee Da Hae will be her replacement.

"Chuno" brings us back to Joseon Dynasty when slaves or servants still existed. Jang Hyuk who plays the role as a slave hunter tries to hunt down Oh Ji Ho, a slave who ran away after being falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. The lead female role, now played by Lee Da Hae, is a daughter of a servant who shares a love relationship with Jang Hyuk but ends up running away.

This is not the first time that Jang Hyuk has worked together. They had acted together previously in the SBS drama Robbers in 2008. Looks like filming should run smoothly starting August 7th.

Shining Inheritance special is a big hit too

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Recently ended drama Shining Inheritance aired a special after the drama and it looks like that brought in quite a few viewers as well. In fact, it actually received first place for that time slot on Monday. According to TNS Media Korea (who is in charge of finding ratings) the special, which was split up into three days, earned 15.7%! Looks like MBC and KBS are in trouble because MBC's 'Come to Play' only received 7.2% and KBS's 'Women's Talk' only received 5.6%. SBS made a smart move and played the special during the normal Yashim Man Man time and had Kang Ho Dong mcing the special. I'm actually watching the drama right now, but I can understand why the special alone would get more ratings than weekly shows.

Han Hyo Joo denies she’s in love

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Han Hyo Joo has finally clarified the rumor of her being in a relationship with Kang Do Han today. She expressed that they were only good friends and were not dating at all.

Han Hyo Joo said in an interview that she got to know Kang Do Han through acquaintances four months ago. They could relate with each other very well because they were both in the acting field. Hyo Joo herself also often confides in Kang Do Han whenever she gets frustrated during her work. But it's only a oppa-dongsaeng relationship and the thought of going steady with Do Han has never once crossed Hyo Joo's mind.

As for the delay in clarifying the rumor, Hyo Joo said that because of her busy schedule (filming for Shining Inheritance), she could only do it today and apologized to her fans for making them worried.

Hyo Joo also expressed her worry that this scandal with Kang Do Han might affect their friendship and also create a negative impact on her drama, Shining Inheritance. She said, "I believe that this rumor will make people take even more notice of my performance in the drama. In order to thank everyone for their concern and not let the production crew down, I will work even harder for the final 4 episodes."

Han Hyo-joo: 'Good People Deserve to be Happy'

Posted by Nez 0 comments

The weekend drama “Brilliant Legacy,” starring actress Han Hyo-joo, has gained enormous popularity among viewers, recording viewer ratings of 30 percent on May 31. The main character, Ko Eun-sung, who is played by Han, is a woman in her early 20s who stands up against injustice and is determined to get back on her feet against all odds. "Good people like Ko Eun-sung deserve to be happy,” said Han, 22, smiling.

We met with Han on June 2 on a rainy day in a cafe in Apgujeong-dong. Han said, "Ko Eun-sung is kindhearted, but not as kindhearted as people think. She is frank but she doesn’t hold a grudge against anyone. I hope viewers will receive encouragement from my character, who overcomes all the hardships and gets back on her feet."

Ko Eun-sung came from a once well-off family and studied in the United States, but one day she lost her parents, her autistic brother and all her money. At one point, she wanted to take her life, but thanks to her irrepressible energy she came to her senses and started things anew by delivering milk. Her strong personality was noticed by the CEO of a food company, Ms. Chang (played by Ban Hyo-jung), who announced one day that she would leave all her fortune to Eun-sung to teach her self-indulgent children and grandchildren. But in return, she asked Eun-sung to display her talent at quelling opposition from everyone around.

Han said, "In real life, few people get a chance to inherit a fortune only because of their kindhearted personality. But there’s no doubt that there are kindhearted people like Eun-sung in real life. I’m sure there are many of them. That’s why I don’t think this drama is purely fiction.”

Han says she was surprised to learn that her character would receive a fortune from Mr. Chang. "I was surprised to read in the script that Eun-sung agreed to receive the old woman’s wealth. I was confused. I asked myself if it’s okay to receive so much money like this,” said Han, laughing. After agreeing to inherit the wealth, Eun-sung launches a goodwill competition with Ms. Chang’s grandson, Hwan (played by Lee Seung-ki), over a restaurant that is on the verge of bankruptcy. But she, Hwan and Jun-se (played by Bae Su-bin) end up in a love triangle. Han says shyly she is excited and nervous to play the upcoming romantic scenes.

Thanks to Ko Eun-sung’s popularity, Han has received a chance to gain popularity after a long slump. She debuted in the 2004 MBC TV sitcom “Nonstop 5” and played a leading role in the 2006 KBS TV2 series “Spring Waltz.” She also appeared in “Iljimae” and “Heaven and Earth,” honing her acting skills. But her presence had remained largely unnoticed over the past five years.

Han said, "To be honest, I’ve been working hard since my debut but I wanted to make my presence more palpable, and I’ve been thinking hard about that these days. So far, I never had a chance to rest for more than two months and have had my hands full, but I failed to receive recognition for my acting or rise to stardom for my looks. I was very frustrated for a while and felt the need to set the right course for my life. Right then, I received the script of 'Brilliant Legacy.' I have no doubt that my character in this drama will help me change my image. So far, I have played quiet characters who had to be patient and suppress their feelings. But Eun-sung is a character who cried her heart out over her loss in episode one. I saw in her an opportunity to make my wishes come true and mature as an actress.”

Han says that in real life she tends to suppress her feelings and anger because she cares about other people’s feelings a great deal. She says she used to be very sensitive even in trivial things but since meeting Eun-sung she has become more upbeat. She said, “I want to be healthy both physically and mentally, like Eun-sung is."

Her character has also earned Han popularity from middle-aged women, who regard her as an ideal daughter-in-law. "I’m happy to know that Eun-sung makes viewers cry and laugh,” said Han, whose makeup-free appearance in the drama has also revealed the hidden side of her beauty.

Han said, "I think viewers find me pretty because I try hard to show them the most candid side of myself. Before, I acted under the pretense of being someone else, because I lacked confidence. But even a small change can make a person beautiful. I have come to love myself and I am confident in my skills, and that apparently shows."
