Son Dam Bi Says Goodbye

Posted by Nez 0 comments

And thankfully not forever. It would be a grave day at allkpop if Son Dam Bi were to leave forever. You would be able to find all the writers at your local bar drinking the sorrow away. Anyways, Son Dam Bi dazzled us without the stupid shoulder wear with her performance of "Crazy" and "Saturday Night".

Although shes saying goodbye to her music career for now, we'll definitely still be seeing her around. Son Dam Bi is preparing to film for the drama that she will be starring in called "Dream". Unfortunately, Son Dam Bi decided to drop the Hollywood film "Hype Nation" to "focus on Dream" but I think Son Dam Bi just finally got a hold of herself and realized that Hype Nation was going nowhere fast. Anyways, it'll be interesting to see Dam Bi in a new light and of course I'll be rooting for her all the way. Good luck!

Choi Shi Won of Super Junior appeared super fine fit as the June cover of Men's Health magazine, being the first idol star to do so.

Choi Shi Won is known to be an exercise fanatic, even going to the gym earlier this year even though his leg was in a cast. He was largely encouraged by those around him as well as his personal trainer with whom he had been training for 4 years.

Choi Shi Won showed off his body in the photo shoot with the concept being basketball, which is his favorite sport. Shi Won’s trainer said, “For this photoshoot, Shi Won lost about 15kg (33 pounds) in 1 month, and is still slowly cutting down his weight to 75kg.” Shi Won's trainer is famous in Korea for training celebrities famous for their bodies. He revealed that when body building, controlling what you eat is important. For this reason, even when Choi Shi Won went abroad with Super Junior to China and Thailand, his trainer went along and they went to the fitness center every day without fail. The head trainer said, "Lots of celebrities come to this health center but not many people enjoy exercising like him." Well, maybe you girls will enjoy the photos:

Big Bang shows off their Japanese Skills on MTV VMA Japan

Posted by Nez 0 comments

BoA wasn't the only Korean artist in attendance at MTV VMA Japan on 30th May, Korean group Big Bang was there as well. They weren't there just for the festivities however, they actually had a role to play.

Big Bang was introduced as "Guest Celebrities" and showed off their Japanese and English linguistic skills for around 30 seconds before introducing Katy Perry. I can't really say much about their Japanese, because I don't know Japanese, but their English seemed pretty good. It seems like G-Dragon is getting better with the accent. Thanks to justine for the tip!

In other news, TVXQ / DBSK / Tohoshinki who weren't in attendance (because of their concerts) was nominated for the Best Group Video Award but unfortunately they didn't win. EXILE actually won the award, better luck next time boys.

Lee Seung Gi with Go Eun Ah ... not so good

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Lee Seung Gi and Go Eun Ah model the summer collection for Japanese clothing brand Edwin. I know it's categorized as Eye Candy but it's more like Eye Boogers, I got to say these are some of the worst modeling pics I've ever seen. With Lee Seung Gi sporting a variation of the ever increasingly-popular perm and Go Eun Ah sporting every awkward unpleasant expression known to man.

They don't seem to be too happy wearing these clothes nor do they look like they care much for each other, but then again with less than stellar models, this actually makes the clothes the focus and makes the clothing stand out more.

Goo Hye Sun is That You?

Posted by Nez 1 comments

Some pre-debut pictures of Goo Hye Sun have surfaced and I had to do a double take. For a second there I thought I was seeing a young Jang Na Ra! Well, except for the square-er face and horrible fashion taste. Then again...Jang Na Ra's fashion isn't that great either. Anyways, what do you guys think? Is it another celebrity that used the power of plastic? Or is she one of the few all-natural faces that just got better changed over time?

SS501's fanmeeting hot property, with help from Kim Hyun Joong

Posted by Nez 0 comments

F4's influence is really shocking! Korean version of "Boys over Flower" is currently airing in Taiwan, and led by F4 member Kim Hyun Joong, SS501's Taipei fanmeeting initial sales on the Dragonboat Festival was great, selling more than 90% on in 1 day.

After organizer Brook Brothers announced SS501's Asia Tour Fanmeeting in Taipei will be held on June 28 at Taipei International Convention Center, Taiwan fans have been excited, even Japanese, Korean and European fans have said they'll fly over to support them, all competing to snatch for tickets. This resulted in many fans queuing overnight outside various Rose Records stores, causing only 300 tickets to be left out of the 3100 tickets on sale on the day of the Dragonboat Festival.

According to representatives from Warner Music and the organizer, who flew to Korea recently to have a meeting with SS501, the members not only welcomed them graciously, leader Kim Hyun Joong enthusiastically invited everyone to eat the fried chicken he models for, Kim Hyun Joong's warm and generous nature, is as if Yoon Ji Hoo-sunbae from "Boys over Flower" appeared.

Recently, the fried chicken brand that Kim Hyun Joong models for is currently holding a "Looking for Kim Hyun Joong's girlfriend" activity, and upon hearing the slogan "Simply buy fried chicken, and have a chance to be Kim Hyun Joong's girlfriend for a day", this caused a popular craze of eating fried chicken among Korean women. When SS501 heard that "Boys over Flower" OST album sales exceeded platinum sales within a week of sales, they felt very shocked and happy, and are extremely looking forward to their visit in June.

12 Days Into Debut Single 'FIRE' Makes 200 Million Won

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Girl group 2NE1 has renacted their sibling group Big Bang's "hundred million apotheosis (?)

2NE1 had released their single (Fire) on the 6th and just after 12 days have made sales records of over a hundred million won. Their senior group, Big Bang, who are in the same label as them have recently made over 1 billion won in sales with 3 CM songs and so is being compared to that. In the singing industry it can be as far as to coin them as "the million won siblings". In one music portal site the party stated "Until the 17th 2NE1's sales were calculated to be over 2 million won. When they had finally appeared on their first ever music program on the 17th the sales had went up overwhelmingly."

This result has come from SK Telecom's sound source service that first changed MLB system's sales into consumer price and then into the total market scale. The surprising thing about it is that just after one appearance on a program the outcome had increased a lot. On the 17th, the only program 2NE1 appeared on was the SBS music program . When 2NE1 had appeared on stage on the program the viewer's rating had skyrocketed into 14.9% (according to AGB Media).

Their record label, YG Entertainment's party states "The strategy of participating in a famous commericial before their debut to get to know them had a strong effect."

2NE1 consists of Park Bom, Sandara Park, Gong Minji, and CL who are planning to release a mini album and start their activities in the beginning of next month.

Kim Beom Leads a New Generation of Hallyu

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Actor Kim Beom of the “Boys of Flowers” fame is emerging as a new Hallyu star. His new film “Flight (Korean title Bisang)” has been sold to Japan even before the filming began. Japanese investors, Glory Entertainment and World Apple Corp., purchased the rights to the film’s theater presentation, DVD, and merchandising rights, demonstrating their affection and trust for the young actor. In addition to the film, Kim’s new drama, “Dream,” to be aired later this year has also been sold to Japan, as well as TV shows and movies he formerly appeared in.

If Bae Yong-joon and Choi Ji-woo represented the first generation of Hallyu, Kim Beom is expected to lead the second wave of Korean pop culture in Japan. While the fans of the first Hallyu generation consist largely of homemakers in their 30s and 40s, those for Kim are much younger, from teenagers to women in their 20s.

Kim’s new film “Flight” is about the emotional conflicts experienced during adolescent years. The film is expected to generate positive feedback from Japan, given that it talks about common concerns of young people everywhere. “Flight” is due for release later this year.

Won Bin interviews about Mother, acting, and future goals

Posted by Nez 0 comments

With Cannes over and the thriller movie Mother releasing this week, there’s been a lot of stuff in the news involving the film’s three main players: Won Bin, Kim Hye-ja, and director Bong Jun-ho.

Aside from Won Bin’s status as one of the hotties of the first wave of Hallyu (initiated by his 2000 tearjerker drama series Autumn Fairy Tale with Song Hye-gyo, Song Seung-heon), this role has been highly anticipated because he’s had such a long break from acting. In stark contrast to most heartthrobs who try to capitalize on fame as much as possible (cramming schedules with movies, dramas, CFs, and magazine shoots), then hurry to burst back on the scene after army duty by trying to hit the ground running, Won Bin has had a relatively sparse career, stayed out of the limelight, and resurfaced only sporadically in recent years as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.

Here’s an interview with the actor, who strikes me as very humble and also very aware of (perhaps even overly disparaging of) his acting limitations.

This is your first new project in five years. You had quite a long hiatus.

As you know, after I served in the military and was discharged and went through rehab [for a knee injury], I considered various projects, but there wasn’t one that made me say, ‘This is the one.’ I wanted a different feeling, but I kept getting screenplays that were a repetition of my existing image for soft and tenderhearted characters. I couldn’t pick a project, which is when I came across Mother, and the thought occurred to me that I didn’t want to let this one slip by me. Of course the director [Bong Jun-ho] and Kim Hye-ja were big reasons, but the character of Do-jun is one I’d always wanted to try.

But the center of Mother is the mother, Kim Hye-ja. As a big comeback role, your character isn’t as prominent.

Although Do-jun’s character is relatively small, I don’t think that’s the important point. Do-jun is a role that stirs his mother into action. Because he’s necessary to the film, I wanted to do it all that much more.

You must have felt some pressure with the huge names of Kim Hye-ja and Bong Jun-ho.

Of course, I felt it quite a lot. I thought a lot about how to get on with Teacher Kim [an honorific term for Kim Hye-ja] and the director, and that my acting shouldn’t fall short of the film. I also put my faith in the director and thought of not making things annoying for Teacher Kim. While working on the film, I felt both fear and enjoyment throughout

Do-jun’s character seems quite difficult to portray. How did you approach and understand the role?

It felt like walking a tightrope — Do-jun is the emotional line that sets off the mother. I tried to portray him as a character who wasn’t easily grasped or contained. I don’t think I’m naturally disposed to being an actor, but I tried to completely immerse myself into Do-jun. Diving into the film was a hard task for me.

Were you able to find the answer to Do-jun’s character?

I aimed to be Do-jun in all instances, and not calculate, not be nailed down to a mold. There’s a scene where he urinates on the street. The director said, “For a kid who pees while standing in line at a bus stop, there’s nothing he can’t do.” It was from that point that I realized I could do anything. [Laughs]

It must have been helpful that you spent your childhood in the mountains and fields of Gangwondo.

I did think back to my childhood growing up in the countryside and that time of innocence, but the answer was really within the script. The director wrote the script himself and understands clearly who Do-jun is better than anyone else, so I talked with him a lot.

In your last film before military service, My Brother, you were in your twenties. Is there anything different now that you’re in your thirties?

Now that I’m in my thirties, I feel more mature and calm. I’m glad I had free time to think. I’m the type who likes to work slowly, so my only thought was to work on a good film without feeling the anxiety of needing to hurry.

I think of you as an actor who isn’t fully developed yet but who’s still growing. Does acting in many projects help raise you to the next level?

When looking at my career, I feel a bit sad that I don’t have many films or diverse projects. Since I’ve taken long breaks after each film, each time I feel like I’m starting over as a rookie again. It feels like a new start. I do think I’d like to work more than I have in the past. I’m not the type of person who can work prolifically and when I’m deeply involved in one thing, I can’t do something else. Once the film has wrapped and begun its promotion, I can breathe and read scripts for the next thing. I’d like to work more from now on.

You’ve been acting for ten years. Do you feel the need for change?

Maybe it’s because of the image given off by my appearance, but I’ve been stuck in younger brother roles and soft-hearted types. It’s not a good thing if I want to show a range. I want to show something different than what I’ve showed in previous roles, particularly given how long my hiatus has been. I’d like to move from the person receiving protection to a masculine role that gives protection, but still I ended up in a role that epitomizes someone needing protection. [Laughs] I haven’t done a melodrama since Autumn Fairy Tale, but now that a lot of time has passed, I’ll be able to express more, different emotions. I’d also like to act in a masculine noir.

BoA in America

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Two months ago on March 17th, BoA released her debut English album with the aim of gaining access to mainstream American markets. The release of this album is especially pertinent given the release of Hikaru Utada 's second album approximately a month later. To give a short introduction on BoA, the singer began a very early career in Korea at the age of 13, releasing her first album in 2000. She would then spread to Japan, releasing a Japanese album the very next year. Some of her major works include "Jewel Song," "Valenti," "No. 1" and "Don't Start Now."

Beginning in November of 2008, BoA's first English single "Eat You Up" appeared on the radio. However, it was not on an obscure Asian American station that BoA appeared on, but rather KIIS-FM, one of the largest radio stations in the Los Angeles area. Her other major hit, "I Did it for Love," played throughout the East on major stations. BoA was also to appear at KIIS-FM's annual Jingle Ball event, as well as in a Times Square performance covered by MTV Iggy and the annual Korean American spectacular Kollaboration. Evidently SM Entertainment has gone to great degrees to promote the album.

America has known few foreign artists outside of Latin America or Britain. Indeed, America has proven itself to be quite resistant to foreign singers, and especially to non-English artists. A few exceptions include Icelandic Bjork and German Rammstein [and let's not forget Romania's O-Zone]. However, both of these artists demonstrate a specialized style, known to but not followed by "mainstream" Americans. BoA has attempted to bridge this gap by singing her American debut album in English. When speaking of foreign music in the United States, it is impossible to ignore that there are those of non-Japanese heritage, and comparatively more of non-Asian heritage, with whom Japanese cultural products, including music, are popular. Although BoA is a native of Korea, given her long career in Japan (iTunes lists the album as J-pop!), BoA would be known by this group as well, providing her with this loyal fan base for her American expansion. If anything, this would be to her advantage, raking in both those enamored with Japanese culture as well as Koreaphiles. However, it is clear that BoA's new album is attempting not to reach exclusively to these groups, many of whom would purchase her Japanese or Korean language works, but instead to appeal to a much broader audience.

In addition to the language, there is definitely a difference between the types of music popular in Asia and those in the United States. In order to garner the support of a general American audience, BoA has chosen to focus her new album on club music, and has worked in collaboration with artists such and Sean Garrett. Of course, in this lies an inherent problem; why would one buy imitations of American-style music when there is no lack of the authentic? Of course had she not done so, appealing to the US market would have been all the more difficult -- a sort of damned if you do damned if you don't situation. Conversely, her fans find themselves conflicted between a disappointment with the stylistic displacement, as many netizens complain for lack of ballads, and their desire to support BoA's arrival. In this, BoA finds herself walking a bit of a tightrope, trying to gain more fans while not alienating her support base.

However, the music industry in the United States (and most of the world) is not only a sale of the music itself, but also of the image of the artist. In order to do this, not only must the music be visible, but so must the artist herself. The other aspect to consider is that image is a reflection of culture; not only would BoA have to sing in English in an Americanized song, but also have to appear more palatable to the American market. In this, BoA does note a significant transformation; while Korea singers are notably more sexualized than a few years ago, they have yet to reach American standards. Although she refuses to call herself sexy, the video for "I Did it for Love" tries very hard, but thankfully fails, to live up to American levels of provocation. One would be more than reluctant to suggest that the albums ultimate success depended on BoA's wardrobe, or even the sexuality of the lyrics, yet it does affect the overall marketing scheme. While not necessarily accusing American culture of discrimination, it is important to note the limited number of Asian Americans in the mainstream music industry, for whom neither English nor lack of knowledge of the culture should be a problem.

Of course, it would be fallacy to imply that promotion, music style, and artist image are the only factors which dictate the success of the album; there is always the criteria of whether or not the album is "good," a subjective standard but nevertheless loosely ascertainable. As the music came out, the reception was very divided. Some point to BoA's English as a weakness, some support her abilities, some only give an "A" for effort. Others might complain about the dance beats being too heavy, or that the vocal quality is poor while others simply claim that the album is wonderful; very few people seem to have taken a stance in between. However, one can not only measure success solely by those vocal enough to state their opinion; music is after all a commercial venture. BoA's English debut did obtain some degree of success, attaining a rank of #127 on the Billboard on March 18th. Seemingly a large accomplishment, it must be put into perspective; Utada Hikaru's first English album in 2004 reached position #160, with little promotion and an overall poor reception. On the whole, the album has been but a flash in the pan, and a dim one at that.

The reasons behind the album's ultimate lack of success may be difficult to ascertain; however, it is most likely a combination of many factors. Regarding the publicity, the attention given to the album outside of promotional purposes still seems to remain largely within the jurisdiction of Asian-American and Asian Entertainment Media. MTV Iggy is responsible for world content, and the fact that the album was covered by this group, rather than regular MTV, shows that the album still is categorized as genre music. One would be hard pressed to imagine The Beatles or the Rolling Stones, had they debuted today, on a "world music" outlet. Whether or not BoA's English was an issue, when speaking of the quality of the music, magnanimity aside, the term "generic" comes to mind. All in all, it appears that her initial fan base was also the group responsible for the sales of the album. Granted, the event does ultimately point to the fact that Asian stars are becoming popular enough to hold concerts in the United States and draw such a crowd.

Visiting KARA at their MT - How does the seafood soup taste?

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Who among the members of KARA is the "Palace's Jang Geum?"
On a sunny day in the month of May, the members of KARA is filming for their latest reality program "MTV's MetaFriends", together with their fans who were all on a cooking mission.

The cooking mission had Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeon, Jung Nicole, Goo Hara and Kang Jiyoung had fans who beat the odds 240:1 to be present that day. Jo Kyung Hyun, Hong Sung Joon, Kim Soo Jin, Lee Seul Ki and Choi Da Jin were the lucky who were together with the members of KARA who got to show their hidden cooking skills.

Divided into 5 units, each member had one partner who were to go on this mission with them, with 30,000 Won as budget. With this, they went to a nearby market to buy the ingredients themselves for their desired dish.

KARA and their friends ran arround in the scorching heat as they went around to buy their ingredients, but even in the heat, they all did not loose the smiles on their faces as they were clearly enjoying themselves on this mission.

Although it was expected that they would be making simple meals like toast and ramen, the girls and their friends surprised everyone when they started makind real dishes from scratch, as evidenced by the ingredients that they got.

KARA and their friends dishes: Seafood soup, Chicken fried rice and Pork fried rice.

All of them finished their dishes within the time limit of one hour, and when it was time for everyone to gather, each one looked serious, realling wanting to win this challenge. As time passed by, the food being put on the table seemed more delicious than the last dish, making everyone lookin on very hungry. Despite the hot weather, the gas burner being broken and the fire that seemed not to be working very well, KARA and their friends did not give up, and thus managed to successfully complete the challenge.

And voila! KARA and their friends dishes!

"This is the first time I tasted something like this", "This is too peppery" and "Its missing a certain flavor" - these were some of the comments at the judgment table. Finally, at the end of the day, Seung Yeon-Sung Joon was proclaimed winner.

The PD who tasted the dishes made by the 5 teams said that "I liked their dish the most because I like the certain hot and peppery taste of it. It was really delicious."

Upon receiving their award, the winning pair said "We would like to thank the cameraman who filmed us in the heat while we were cooking!", then smiled brightly at everyone present.

If there is a first placer, there are also the last placers which was a tie between Gyuri-Da Jin who prepared hot rice cakes and Nicole-Seulki who cooked the Kimchi stew and fruit platter. The two losing teams good-naturedly cleaned the dishes, afterwhich the first episode of MTV's MetaFriends, the cooking mission ended.

Now its KARA's comments. (I'm putting spoilers on this for those who haven't watch the show yet and wants to be surprised at the winners)

The Kimchi stew received the comment that "Its the first time I ever tasted something like this." to which Nicole admitted "It is true. It was a bit too salty. I think we boiled it for too long"
The two kinds of hot rice cakes were both last place. Gyuri said "I can't admit defeat. We only were not able to put all the needed seasonings thats why it turned out that way. Its an all-natural taste. And, we don't care about the ranking, so we're okay."
Seung Yeon-Sung Joon won. Jiyoung complained "They used pre-seasoned ingredients while we started everything from scratch. We were at a disadvantage." To which the winner (who overheard this) said "We only used (while making a really small gesture with her hands) this much. The peppery and refreshing taste came from the seafood. What can we do about that?"

Lee Min Ho’s Interview for Vogue Girl [Part 2]

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Vogue Girl (VG): In the meanwhile, you’ve become more widely known as Boys Over Flowers‘ Gu Jun Pyo rather than by your own name, Lee Min Ho. As an actor, you’re going to have to bid farewell to this name; have you already began this process internally? Or is it too early for your heart to leave behind Gu Jun Pyo?
Lee Min Ho (LMH): I didn’t particularly think that I have to part with it; the process began quickly without me realizing it. You see, I’ve been doing other work without a break after completing Boys Over Flowers. Without time to even feel the aftereffect of Gu Jun Pyo, [the character] is becoming distant.

VG: There’s tremendous discussion on your every action. Through many articles and rumours, (your fans) have been exposed to much speculation on everything beginning from your love life. You must have definitely been scarred. By any chance have you – in a short time – (adapted) a coping method to minimize the scars or shock? Ignore it? Be understanding? Be resigned to it? Be sympathetic?
LMH: I think it’s none of [the above]. Even though I try to ignore it, I’m still hurt to an extent; then I try to be understanding, but it’s incomprehensible (laughter); if I decide to resign myself [to the rumours], they still get on my nerves; with no need for further explanation, I think it’ll be impossible to sympathize. I just get angry, but forget about it because I’m simple-minded; my anger rises when I remember it again and then calms down… That’s what it’s been like.

VG: Although it’s evening here in London, it’s 6am in Korea yet you just received a prank call. It must be annoying when getting these inconsiderate calls.
LMH: There’s a lot of truly unique people from those who prank call. As well as people who are fun[ny]. I don’t answer with hostility because they [could be] fans. First I pick up the call and get a rough idea of the situation; after I hang up, I save the number as spam so that I don’t answer next time. These days prank calls are done so intelligently that I fall for them often. During the shoot earlier, I got a call saying, “It’s me, Eun Hye!” Since I actually have a friend named Eun Hye within my network I thought it was her, but it was a prank call. It’s like that.

VG: Do you directly look up reviews or article comments about (Boys Before Flowers or yourself)?
LMH: I don’t look too much. Because of the recent Benz rumour I read a little and there really were so many negative comments. It was the first time I saw that many. I got a lot of scars too. If it was really something I did (buy the car), I would have agreed and reflected over my mistake. But I was hurt that there were such negative comments attached to an article written based on presumption.

VG: You seem to handle the explosive interest quite well, not feeling too burdened.
LMH: It’s not as burdensome as one would think. But there are times when I’m surprised. Really trivial matters are publicized and become news articles. That’s burdensome.

VG: Some people say the way for Lee Min Ho to survive is to shed the Gu Jun Pyo image as soon as possible, while others say that your next project should be a lovelier one that shows off Gu Jun Pyo’s charm. Which way are you more inclined to?
LMH: Both are the same. If I suddenly shed Gu Jun Pyo and take on a completely different role, I think it would feel strange and unfamiliar to viewers. Because [Gu Jun Pyo] was such a strong image. But then if I did a similar role, I suppose people would say that there’s no change. There’s nothing I can do either way. I think I’ll have to shed it progressively.

VG: Looking back at the Gu Jun Pyo that Lee Min Ho portrayed calmly in the midst of filming with barely enough time to breathe, how do you feel?
LMH: There’s so many parts that were lacking. Every moment. Because it was a drama that was filmed with time chasing us, I think there was insufficient time to adequately investigate and grasp the character. I think the great response [from viewers] was because of the good character Gu Jun Pyo, and they were easy on me since I’m a rookie actor.

VG: As Lee Min Ho, an actor in your twenties, are you satisfied with your face, voice, and other parts of your body? And if there’s a part you’re dissatisfied with…..?
LMH: Yes. I’m satisfied. But I’d like it if my voice was a bit deeper. There are times when a slightly nasal sound comes out, so that’s a bit dissatisfying.

VG: As an actor, is there another actor’s appearance that you covet?
LMH: I like the appearance of someone who can clearly show both a face of virtue and a face of evil. Which actor can do that? Ah~ I can’t remember. (Thinks for awhile) Forget it. This. Even if I covet it, I can ‘only’ covet it. Then…. just…. there is none (laughs)!

VG: Besides for getting extremely famous from the success of the drama, what’s the happiest aspect of your life these days?
LMH: Experiencing many things that I’ve wondered if I’d ever be able to do in life. Also that my parents are happy. I’m content when I see my mother’s smiling face. She was happy for me when I first said I’m pursuing acting, and she’s happy just to see me on TV.

VG: If you have one, what’s your clearest and nearest goal at the moment?
LMH: To show a good image with a good project. In May, I’ll complete the schedule that was a result of Boys Over Flowers. In June, I’ll get some personal time that I haven’t been able to have. The plan is to discuss my next production after that.

VG: How would you like your twenties to be remembered?
LMH: I’d like it to be the busiest time of my life. I want to do lots of productions and lots of work. I want to be remembered as Lee Min Ho who lived diligently and worked hard.

Lee Min Ho’s Interview for Vogue Girl [Part 1]

Posted by Nez 1 comments

Vogue Girl met with Lee Min Ho for an interview along with a photo shoot in London, England.

Vogue Girl (VG): Your blood type is A. (Type As) abide well by social norms, have a timid side, and are perfectionists. Is your personality similar to that? Is it not?
Lee Min Ho (LMH): My personality is not like a type A. First of all, I can’t become a perfectionist, I’m not shy, and I don’t maintain social norms well either (laughter). Neither am I that precise.

VG: Are you a morning person or an owl-like night person ?
LMH: I’m like an owl. To the extent that the oriental medicine doctor said that my physical constitution doesn’t allow me to use energy in the daytime. Although due to my schedule, there have been occasions recently that make me a morning person.

VG: What does the owl Lee Min Ho usually do at night?
LMH: It’s not possible now, but before I’d go out with friends to eat good food or play [computer] games at home.

VG: If some time frees up in the middle of the afternoon, do you do outdoor activities like basketball or soccer or play games indoors?
LMH: It depends on [my] condition. I like sports so if [my] condition’s good I guess I’d play basketball or soccer but if it seems bothersome, I play games or watch movies. If I were to choose now…, I like activities I can do at home.

VG: Which acting style would you like to adopt – Choi Min Sik’s way of melting into heartbreaking, wretched characters or Song Kang Ho’s way of making the character his own to the point that it’s provoking/detestable.
LMH: I think it’d be half-half? If [I] put in effort to melt into the character, wouldn’t it become my own? Even if I think I’m wholly true to the character, I think my [own] image would still appear. Because I’m human.

VG: If you were to choose a movie to dissolve stress, which would you watch between a blockbuster action movie, mystery crime thriller, and a slapstick comedy?
LMH: Mysteries or suspense are what I like but if it was to relieve stress, it’d likely be a blockbuster movie.

VG: Then what’s the most recent film you’ve seen?
LMH: It’s been too long since I’ve been to a movie theatre. Since A Frozen Flower was the last film I saw. I watched with my manager and stylist. The audience consisted only of us three. I was origally going to go with just my manager, but if it had been so, it would have caused big trouble from the embarrassment.

VG: What if an offer for a character like Zo In Sung’s in A Frozen Flower came in?
LMH: I think it would be a bit difficult right now. Although I think I could consider it after some time goes by and I gain experience.

VG: Which is the movie you’ve thought of seeing out between the recent topics of conversation – director Park Chan Wook’s Thirst or Bong Joon Ho’s Mother.
LMH: If I were to choose just one out of the two people, will I…, be ok (laughter)? I think I’m on the side of Thirst.

VG: They say gatherings between close friends are divided by two types (of people) – those who liven up the atmosphere by being loud and making people laugh and in contrast, those who see the appropriate, opportune responses and laugh. Which side are you on?
LMH: It varies widely depending on the circumstance. With my friends from middle school or high school, I’m the former, but as I began acting and entered [that] social life, I’ve realized that there are times when it’s necessary to be the latter. Now I’m almost closer to the latter.

VG: Is the type of opposite sex that catches your eye like Gianna Jun or Song Hye Kyo? Or like Kim Tae Hee?
LMH: I’ve said a few times before, but Song Hye Kyo’s style.

VG: If a girl who is your ideal type appears in front of your eyes, do you just look ahead and make a move or do you send telepathy while staying away and make her approach (you).

LMH: I think I’d send telepathy first. It’s good to have be cautious in love.

VG: Where would you proceed to – a gathering with close friends that you haven’t seen in a long while or an urgent (sudden) summons from your girlfriend?
LMH: Barring if you have a girlfriend that you can’t live without seeing even for one day, wouldn’t you usually go to a friends gathering where you can see many people at once? When I’m busy like I am these days, I particularly need to and miss meeting up with friends.

VG: Would you prefer Tokyo, Japan or Paris, France if you were to leave on a trip alone?
LMH: Paris, France, since I’ve never been.

VG: Is the weather you like rainy or sunny?
LMH: It’s the cloudy weather preceding rainfall. I can’t stand when it’s hot because of the bright sun, and I don’t like rainy days because it’s damp. That’s why I also like the cool season of autumn.

VG: Is your head clearer at 2pm or 2am?
LMH: I’m like an owl, so 2am.

VG: Which musical artist are you most curious about nowadays, between Girls’ Generation (SNSD) and Kiha & the Faces (장기하와 얼글들)?
LMH: Kiha & the Faces. They’re really fascinating. There was a time I watched a video clip [of them] and they really caught my eye.

VG: Do you tend to listen to a song you like continually for several months or do you diligently check for new song updates?
LMH: I listen to a song I like on repeat but I get sick of it quickly. I listen to it until I get sick of it. Just like how I listened to SNSD’s “Gee” too much until a bit ago, which is why my answer to the previous question was Kiha & the Faces.

VG: Are the shoes you enjoy wearing white-as-new hightops or faded sneakers?
LMH: Faded sneakers, although fans and the people around me think that I’d wear white hightops a lot.

VG: In your closet, are there more black jeans or blue jeans?
LMH: Black jeans. Not only jeans but I mostly wear only the colours black, white, and grey.

VG: When you think of the words, “cool guy”, does George Clooney wearing a fitted suit come to mind or Johnny Depp in vintage jeans and a hat come to mind?
LMH: Men are [for] suits. Therefore, George Clooney.

VG: After trying it out directly, which did you feel “that suits me surprisingly well” about between Gu Jun Pyo’s curly hair and the dark, smoky eye make-up in the beer CF?
LMH: Not so much that it suited me well but I’ve recently gained an interest in new styles such as smoky eye make-up. And it was a fun experience to film with that appearance.

VG: Tonight, if you could just see one production, what would you choose between a musical or a play?
LMH: I think I’d see a play. I haven’t been able to go often since the beginning of Boys Over Flowers. The last [theatrical] production I saw was From the Bottom starring Kim Su Ro sunbae (senior) in the middle of filming [BOF].

VG: Is the sport you like to watch, soccer or baseball?
LMH: Soccer. I played when I was young, you see. For some reason, if there’s a sport that men like, I think they dislike the [sport] matches that oppose it.

VG: Which event are you confident in between the 100 metre dash and a long distance race.
LMH: 100m dash. I can’t run with perseverance.

VG: Does your sense of humour lean towards real variety show Infinity Challenge or comedy show Gag Concert?
LMH: Real variety. In the past, I had fun watching the show Survivor, where the last person that remains on a remoted island wins.

VG: In your opinion, is the best harmony between ‘beer and chicken’ or ’soju and pork belly’?
LMH: [This is] difficult…(laughter). Alcohol-wise, I like beer but I like pork belly way better so [my answer] would be soju and pork belly. I’m not good at drinking alcohol. Four shots of soju is my limit.

VG: Do you prefer the playing of an electronic guitar or an acoustic guitar?
LMH: Acoustic guitar.

VG: Which animal would you like to raise as a pet – a dog or a cat?
LMH: I prefer dogs but these days I don’t have time to take care of one so I think it might be ok to raise a cat that doesn’t feel loneliness.

VG: If you come across a baby or an animal on the street, do you tend to say something or touch it, or do you just pass by?
LMH: It depends on the situation. In general if I see a baby, I tend to affectionately touch its cheek or foot.

VG: When shopping, do you make comparisons multiple times or purchase immediately if it appeals to you?
LMH: I tend to buy as soon as soon as it catches my eye.

VG: When sleeping, do you sleep lying on your side or on your stomach?
LMH: I sleep lying on my side or my stomach. I sleep most often on my side, but don’t sleep lying properly on my back.

VG: Which do you remember better – your friends’ phone numbers or movie leading actors’ names?
LMH: Movie leads’ names.

VG: Do you like white rice or do you like mixed rice?
LMH: White rice. The reason being that it just tastes better. Meat side dishes suit it best.

VG: Do you like to be seated in a corner far from the entrance of a cafe or by a window?

LMH: A corner seat in a quiet space. That was comfortable from a while ago.

VG: Do you drink quietly while sitting at a club or do you enjoy dancing on the floor?
LMH: As I drink a little bit of alcohol, I dance timidly (laughter).

VG: If there’s something like a missing button, loose thread, or small stain does it consume your nerves the entire day or do you forget about it?
LMH: It completely consumes my nerves.

VG: On a day when the forecast calls for rain, do you make sure to take an umbrella when you leave or do you just go out?
LMH: I don’t take an umbrella.

VG: Do you write a journal or diary?
LMH: No.

VG: Do you suppress your tears if possible or do you cry when you feel like it?
LMH: I suppress [them].

VG: Is your outlook on life one that sets plans (for the future) to abide by or is it happily living a full life in the present?
LMH: I’m devoted to today. I don’t really think about tomorrow and I tend to leave things to flow [naturally]. That’s why I need people around me that set up long-run plans and guide me all the more. Everything tends to be impromptu. Even with trips I like to leave by suddenly deciding, “Let’s go!”, rather than scheduling [ahead of time].

VG: If possible, would you want to stay in your twenties, or do you think it’d be nice to quickly go into your thirties?
LMH: I want to remain in my twenties. Forever. Continually.

Compare Dao Ming Si/Jun Pyo : Lee Min Ho Evil, Jerry Yan Righteous?

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Ken Zhu Xiao Tian stood up for F4 brother Jerry Yan, yesterday seeing the GTV Korean version of "Boys Over Flowers" poster, Ken pointed at Lee Min Ho saying: "I think Jerry is more handsomer than him, he seems to carry a bit of evilness, Jerry seems to be more righteous."

Lee Min Ho will be arriving in Taiwan to promote the Korean version “Boys Over Flowers”, because of “BOF’s” popularity has lately watched the Korean version, had a lot of feelings. He said: “The Korean government really supports the film and television industry, their first episode’s scene is entry on a helicopter, compared to us; borrowing 2 sports cars, telling us to be extra careful, the 4 of us poor guys has never driven good cars, during filming with fear, to cause damage.”

As for the Korean/Japanese version dramas all used extra props, clothing, accessories to keep up the appearance, at the time of Taiwan’s F4 they were wearing original WuFenPu Fashion Area clothes. Ken said, Taiwan’s most successful part was they were able to film such a popular product with limited budget. Up until now, all of those prop clothing are still kept safe, allowing them to remind him anytime.

This time the modern F4, Fahrenheit is on the same stage, Ken said, this is like the F4 in earlier days 少不更事 young and inexperienced, now a days the idol groups are even better qualified, the modern F4 are stylish, Fahrenheit has a variety effect.

But he says straightforwardly, Fahrenheit’s period now is like F4 then when they’ve been overly worked, looking at Jiro Wang Calvin Chen tired, obvious dark circles.
