Japanese students fall in love with Lee Seung-gi and Han Hyo-joo
Many fervent viewers poured out their comments about the show on the viewers’ board for “The Shining Inheritance.” And it is worth noting that a majority of these viewers were high-school students and young people in their twenties and thirties.This is quite unexpected because in the past, Hallyu fans were mostly composed of women in their forties. This could be because “The Shining Inheritance” was broadcast in March, overlapping with spring break for students. As the Japanese school year starts in April with the spring break in March, it was possible to lure middle school, high school and college students on their school breaks to the front of television sets. For “Hallyu Alpha”, it is encouraging that they turned the younger generation — who had previously thought that “Hallyu is just something that older ladies like” — into Hallyu drama fans.
“Hallyu Alpha” has been showing medical drama “New Heart” since April 1, after which MBC TV series “The Last Scandal of My Life,” starring actor Jung Joon-ho and the late actress Choi Jin-sil will air. With Korean blockbuster “IRIS” (starring Lee Byung-hun and Kim Tae-hee) and “Hard To Say I Love You” (starring Hero Jaejoong) lined up for the second half of the year, can it be said that the new generation of Korean Wave has already begun? We hope that “Hallyu Alpha” will build a strong foundation for the new round of Korean Wave.

Shining Inheritance is a success in Japan
Shining Inheritance which starred Lee Seung Gi and Han Hyo Joo was one of the most popular dramas of 2009 in Korea.
It has spread its wings to other countries and now a hit in Japan.
On the 24th, the drama rating (title was altered to Brilliant Inheritance for Japan) reached 9.7% and was number 1 in its timeslot. The episode was the part where the two main characters share their first kiss, which was very popular in Korea as well.
When the episode ended, there were many positive comments on Fuji TV’s site, such as, “The kiss scene was very cool.”, and “I can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode.”
A representative from Fuji TV stated, “The average ratings for that timeslot (2PM) are around 4~5%. We were thus surprised when the rating almost hit 10%.”
Congratulations to the drama and especially Lee Seung Gi and Han Hyo Joo, whose promotional trip earlier this month to Japan must have helped a bit in boosting ratings.

Lee SeungGi and YoonA voted #1 for BaekSang Arts Awards male and female popularity awards
Lee SeungGi and So Nyeo Shi Dae YoonA have been awarded the popularity award at the BaekSang Arts Awards.
The 46th BaekSang Arts Awards popularity poll results which ended on 23rd March, showed that Lee Seung Gi has been voted #1 for TV and movie categories with 53.42% of votes. Other than the popularity awards, Lee SeungGi is also nominated for 2 other categories like TV newcomer and variety show category. With an overwhelming rate of 70% of viewership made last year with his appearance in drama ‘Brilliant Legacy’ and KBS 2Days 1Night, many are interested to see if he will win awards during the BaekSang Arts Awards.
Dong Bang Shin Ki Jung YunHo from ‘Heading To The Ground’ is up #2 on the popularity poll, with Jang GeunSeok from ‘You’re Beautiful’ is up #3 and Lee JunKi at #4.
As for female artiste poll, So Nyeo Shi Dae YoonA is up #1 on the poll with 31.76% votes with her drama ‘Cinderella Man’. #2 goes to Yoon EunHye from ‘My Fair Lady’, #3 Han HyoJoo from ‘Brilliant Legacy’, #4 and #5 go to Hwang Jung Eum and Shin SeKyung from ‘High Kick Through The Roof’.
The awards ceremony for the 46th BaekSang Arts Awards will take place on 26th March and aired on KBS 2TV from 8pm.

Lee Seung Gi to come back with drama “My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox”
Nicknamed “the boy with a 70% viewership rating,” Lee Seung Gi will be making his comeback soon as an actor.
After confirming his role in the drama My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox, this handsome actor is currently busy preparing for the drama’s debut. My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox is written by the trendy script writers the Hong Sisters, who are also responsible for works such as Perfect Couple and You’re Beautiful.
Last December at an interview with Star News the Hong sisters said about the drama, “The main guy character is the most immature person ever in the history of drama. It’s a fantasy mellow story where the guy coincidently meets and falls in love with a nine tailed fox.”
Lee Seung Gi meets takes on the role of a man who cannot help falling in love with a nine tailed fox even though he is afraid that she will steal his organ. This is the first time Lee Seung Gi comes back to a TV drama after Brilliant Legacy last July.
This talented celebrity gained popularity during his days in Brilliant Legacy for also being in 1 Night 2 Days and gaining 70% viewership for those two programs.
The main female lead for My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox is said to be a trendy & fresh female celebrity who will be confirmed shortly.
I am excited for this new drama as I fell in love with Seung Gi’s character Hwan during his last drama. Although I am curious as to who the female lead will be, as long as they have good chemistry like Seung Gi and Hyo Joo, I’m sure the drama will be a big hit!

Lee Seung Gi’s Pizza Hut CFs released
We reported last week that singer Lee Seung Gi would be assuming the role of a boyfriend for an upcoming CF for Pizza Hut. Now, two 30 second CFs and a BTS video have been released!
In the first CF, Lee Seung Gi ditches his usual cute adorable self and assumes the role of a rather charming and loud boyfriend. You know the kind that kind of takes charge as he rips open his shirt and sweeps you off into the sunset?
Er… my disturbing fantasies aside, Lee Seung Gi is asked by his girlfriend why they only meet at lunch. The obvious reason is because the food is cheap as Pizza Hut promotes their $5 Smart Lunch campaign. His girlfriend asks if they can meet for dinner today and he abruptly declines. But the slick man covers it up by telling his girlfriend that she looks her prettiest at lunch.
The 2nd video is a minute long BTS with some…odd music looping in the background. The last 30 seconds is the actual CF but there is no real big storyline here, but doesn’t shrimp on pizza just sound absolutely wonderful?

Is Lee Seung Gi’s ideal girl Kim Yuna or SNSD’s Yoona?
Lee Seung Gi had previously mentioned that SNSD/Girls Generation’s YoonA was his ideal girl. There might be a possibility that this has changed, as the nation’s heodang is taking interest in figure skater Kim Yuna.
On a special recording of KBS 1 Night 2 Days with journalists as guests, Lee Seung Gi said, “At home, I watch the Olympics a lot, and I have to say that the athletes are doing admirably. It would also be great if Kim Yuna won a gold medal.”
He then thought about what he had said, and continued, “Since [my message for] her to win a gold medal can give her pressure, I just want her to try her best and give a great performance that will shake the hearts of our nation.”
Hearing this, Kang Ho Dong said, “Is Kim Yuna your ideal girl?” The reporters budged in and also said, “We have thought about that. The two of you match so well. You are the oppa and there isn’t a major a age gap.”
Lee Seung Gi responded, “If I do go out with her, the nation will talk badly about me.”

In the recent broadcast of KBS 2TV “Happy Together Season 3″ Lee SeungGi reveals his MC secret.
Besides acting and singing, Lee SeungGi is also active as an MC in SBS ‘Strong Heart” together with Kang HoDong.
Happy Together Season 3 MC Yoo JaeSeok asks him,”How do you do the MC job so well?”, he praised while getting the agreement from the witty Park MyungSoo.
Lee SeungGi, “In the past, whenever I appeared as guest in a program, I tried to look at the MC role carefully and started my observation since then. I also observed Yoo JaeSeok,” he revealed the secret.
After saying that, Lee SeungGi and Yoo JaeSeok switched role, Lee SeungGi as MC and Yoo JaeSeok as the guest and Lee SeungGi impersonated Yoo JaeSeok MC skills in the show.
Meanwhile, as an actor, Lee SeungGi will be meeting his Japanese fans in this Lunar New Year holidays to promote drama “Shining Inheritance” as it will be broadcasted in Japan.

On KBS 2TV Happy Together aired on 11th February, Lee SeungGi, Kim Jong Kook, Mighty Mouth Shorry J, gagman Park MyungSoo were seen dancing to Brown Eyed Girls’ hit ‘Abracadabra’.
Especially for Kim JongKook, the act of dancing to the saucy hip dance with his muscular body had caused ripples of laughter in the filming set.
Lee Seung Gi also did a dance performance with Shin BongSeon to the song ‘My Ear’s Candy’ on the show, showing his hidden dance skills.

Lee SeungGi surpasses Yoo JaeSeok and Kang HoDong to be ‘SBS Best MC’
Multitainer Lee SeungGi receives acknowledgment for his MCing skills.
Lee SeungGi has received over the TV category MC award (special award) from SBS CEO at SBS main building on 11th January. This was based on the assessment done on broadcast programmes for the 2nd half of year 2009.
Lee SeungGi is said to have shown great MC’ing skills for the show ‘Strong Heart’.
A representative from Lee SeungGi’s company has received over the award for him that day and gave a short thankyou speech to Park SangHyuk PD for the show, “Really thank you for leading well even though this is the first time he’s doing MC’ing.”

Lee Seung Gi and Kim Tae Hee will stay lonely in 2010
Lee Seung Gi and Kim Tae Hee recently won the votes on a poll that asked, “Which celebrity will remain single in 2010?”
I’m a bit surprised because both of those stars could get a lover in a millisecond. But the poll must be pretty accurate since KBS Entertainment Relay took results from 12,000 people.
Each idol won 20% of the votes. Then Lee Hyori and Kim Hyun Joong were second in line. Kim Hye Soo and Rain were at third and Han Ye Seul along with Bae Yong Joon were fourth. Lastly, Son Ye Jin and Jo In Sung came in fifth place.
These results are a bit weird, don’t you think? They are all stars that seem to be looking for marriage, such as Lee Hyori. Not only that, Kim Hye Soo is already dating someone, Yoo Hae Jin. This list looks like it should be titled, “Stars People Hope Will Stay Single, Forever.”

Lee Seung Gi is a Hidden Child?
You would think that a celebrity's family would boast about the star in the household, but who knew they would actually hide the fact? Well, maybe not all celebrity familes, but Lee Seung Gi's family sure do.Lee Seung Gi was a featured guest on the KBS 2TV 'Entertainment News', where he revealed that, "My family hides the fact that I'm part of the family."
He said, "When my sister hears comments like, 'You look like Lee Seung Gi', she feels guilty and strongly denies it, saying 'What? I look like Lee Seung Gi?'"
In addition, Lee Seung Gi admitted that, "My mother and father, on the other hand, carefully avoids revealing the truth. When my parents hear comments like, 'Did you know Lee Seung Gi lives in this town?' they reply, 'Oh really?', and also, when they hear, 'He was in our supermarket', they say, 'I saw him a couple of times as well.'"

Lee Seung Gi has chocolate abs?
You guys are probably thinking, "Lee Seung Gi? Abs? No way!" Well think again, on a recent episode of SBS's One Night TV Entertainment, a picture of Lee Seung Gi's abs was revealed.Lee Seung Gi is currently preparing his "2009 Lee Seung Gi Hope Concert in Seoul" which will be held on December 12th and 13th at the Seoul Olympic Stadium. For those of you who were disappointed that it was just a picture, don't worry! Lee Seung Gi will reveal his abs at his concert!
Lee Seung Gi commented, "Looking at the picture, even I was surprised to the point where I have thought if the picture was edited. After I made these abs, I was wondering if my health worsened... The day before I had to take the photo of my abs, I was confirmed of swine flu."

People no longer care for stars’ Strong Heart?
At least that’s what the rating suggests.According to the latest poll from AGB Nielsen Media Research, the most recent episode of SBS’ Strong Heart, which aired on November 24th garnered 14.8% viewership, which is 3.4% less than the 18.2% viewership they scored the previous week, on the 17th. Ever since the first episode of Strong Heart aired, the show has been garnering an average of 17~18% viewership each week. This week marks the lowest rating for the show since the first episode aired.
However on the same night, KBS 2TV’s Sang Sang Plus saw an increase of 3.6% in its viewership, bringing the number up to 9.7% from previous week’s 6.1%, suggesting people who were previously tuning into Strong Heart were tuning into Sang Sang Plus on that night. Did the combined presence of Brown Eyed Girls, 2AM and Kara as guests make viewers turn in to Sang Sang Plus instead of Strong Heart?
Many people are now wondering how Strong Heart will get its viewers back in the upcoming weeks and was it just a one-off thing. But one thing that SBS can take heart in was that Strong Heart remains No.1 among competing programs for Tuesday night.Take out with full credits.
