It's no mystery that girl group After School has been killing it on the charts and maintaining the top spot since the release of their 2nd single Because of You. But is it to the point where it could be the next Gee?
Korea classifies songs into two categories in the year with the first half (January - June) and the second (July - December). Each year there is a "First Half of the Year Syndrome" song and a "Second Half of the Year Syndrome" song. Earlier this year the 9 member girl group SNSD / Girls' Generation took the kpop world by storm with their ever-so-addictive song Gee and sexy choreography, creating the "First Half of the Year Syndrome." Now critics are wondering whether or not After School's latest single could be the second!
There have been many hit songs and amazing debuts this second half of the year, but Because of You has been holding onto the number 1 spot on the online charts, beating out debuts and comebacks from both YG and JYP artists. It's hard enough to hold onto the number 1 spot even for a week, but these girls have been at it for a while.
Previously, they had promised to deliver something new to the K-Pop scene that no girl group has ever done before. Many fans have been saying that the song sounds similar to Big Bang's Lies, and although many don't agree, do recall that Lies was a huge success.
So what do you all think, could After School's latest single really be the "Second Half of the Year Syndrome"?
