Super Junior’s Lee Donghae to Star in a Filipino Drama?

Seems like Super Junior fans in the Philippines have something more to look forward to…

With the success of the last leg of Super Junior’s Super Show 2 in Manila last April 10, Filipino fans are tickled pink with the possibility of Filipino favorite Lee Donghae — starring in a local drama!

Donghae expressed this desire at a press conference held at the Shangri-La EDSA Plaza Hotel last Saturday, “I wish to do a TV drama in the Philippines,” he said.

Donghae is acknowledged as the most famous among Filipino fans. “Thanks for all the support and we hope to visit again,” he added.

Fellow Super Junior member and drama actor, Choi Siwon, also impressed the crowd with his English skills. When asked how the group prepares before every performance, he spoke in straight English: “We just pray to God before we go to the stage.”

Super Junior is the first K-pop group to have a gold record in the Philippines with 10,000 copies sold. The group also released the “Super Show 2 Live Album” last February.

Their music video for the song “Sorry, Sorry” simultaneously topped different charts on leading music channel MYX.

Korean dramas are the rave in the Philippines since the unprecedented success of Autumn in my Heart, Stairway to Heaven, Full House, Coffee Prince, Boys Over Flowers, Lovers in Paris, Spring Waltz, and now, Queen Seon Deok.

Filipino versions of Stairway to Heaven, Kim Sam Soon, Full House, and Lovers in Paris have also been produced to cater to the viewers’ thirst for Korean-inspired dramas.

With the growing interest for anything Korean in the Philippines, it won’t be long before Philippine network giants pick up a new trend by hiring Korean super stars for their own dramas.
