Maeng Gina has been revealed to be the cousin of Boys Over Flower's star Kim Bum. Currently she is a 4th year student at Korea University majoring in International Studies & Communication (for those of you who don't know, it's part of SKY aka Ivy league of Korea). In 2001, she appeared on "(JYP) Park Jin Young's Talented Voice Project 99% Challenge" and was chosen to join JYP Entertainment, under JYP she trained for 5 years to become a singer.
In April of 2006 she released a digital single to which Kim Bum wrote on his cyworld encouragingly, "You're a senior to me in life and in the entertainment business, you're family and a friend and we can share the same struggles, my older cousin Gina! This time you really prepared a lot to debut as a singer."
In addition, it has been revealed she has sung in the Cain & Abel OST. Unfortunately for her she didn't have much success in the singing business.
However, she has become a subject of interest because she is one of 2 Koreans that made the first cut of the 50 people chosen (out of several million applicants) in the global project "Dream Career" (Island Caretaker). It's for a newly created position in Queensland Island in Australia as Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef. It's a 6 month long position with a salary of $140,000, so there's stiff competition.
Her English is surprisingly decent but her pictures and video make her seem like a totally different person.
