Super Junior M tries to emulate Britney Spears

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Not really but their outfits sure do remind us of Britney’s hit Pepsi commercial.

Super Junior M is the next boy group to endorse for Pepsi following famous boy bands and singers such as F4 and Jay Chou.

With the commercial filmed in February, on April 28, 2009, Pepsi and Super Junior M held a joint press conference ironically called the “‘Pepsi Super Junior M collaboration press conference” officially announcing them as the new face for Pepsi. At this conference, more than 300 fans were present. Furthermore, fans were only allowed in if they wore a blue shirt.

Move over “Boys over Flowers,” Yoon Eun-hye is here

Posted by Nez 0 comments

For her new upcoming drama “Lady Castle”, Yoon Eun-hye will stray from her typical cute character to that of a refined role of a rich woman whose supposedly trustworthy manager eyes only the pile of money in her home.

Needless to say, the story plot is already too obvious. The only difference is, unlike “Boys Before Flowers”, the drama will develop from her teen years to her 30s encompassing almost two decades. You will literally see her transform- think Brad Pitt playing all the different life stages of Benjamin Button but not in reverse.

Because of such dramatic changes, drama producers have stated that fashion will play a major force in the drama.

The drama itself has not been officially picked up by a specific network but rumors have it that KBS has already decided to pick this up.

SS501 does le coq sportif

Posted by Nez 0 comments

SS501 is squeezing out their famous member, Kim Hyun-joong for every penny he is worth. The boy group tagged along with the “Boys over Flowers” crew to Japan and now this- a full-fledged catalog for clothing brand, “Le coq sportif” (which sounds like a rude word).

Check out the boys working the camera to sell a few more t-shirts.

T-ara’s copying continues

Posted by Nez 0 comments

As if Girls Generation was not enough, their first music video “Good Person” from MBC’s “Cinderella Man” continues to copy SM Entertainment’s female groups.

From washed out to fade out shots, from individual faces to group whole body frames, it seems that Mnet has literally taken SM’s CSJH the Grace’s “My Everything” music video.

Although it is understandable that they are trying to focus the camera on the faces of the new group and their talents, if Mnet really wants to sell this new group, and if CSJH’s history is any indication, they are going to need to display more than their talent, they are definitely going to need to take the image of sexy/cute even further.

If anything, Mnet seems to have made the wrong choice in trying to debut a female group during a time where many other female groups are in the midst of their activity.

Check out their new music video below as well as CSJH’s here (sorry all videos have disabled embedding).

UN’s Kim Jung-hoon says “See you in two years”

The former “Goong” star has officially joined the army to fulfill his civic duty as a Korean citizen on April 28, 2009.

Although most people may not recognize him due to his low profile in Korea for the past two years, Kim Jung-hoon still holds a steady fan base. With 800 fans present at his check-in center in Gyongido, the man has more fans than the bigger named stars who enlisted before him.

Wedding bells for Shin-ae

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Shin-ae, who recently announced her plans to get married to the lucky man studying in Seattle, has finally set the date. Wedding bells will be ringing for Shin-ae on May 28th at the ‘Sheraton Grande Walker Hill Hotel’ in Seoul.

After her appearance on the show ‘We Got Married’, things seem to be working out better for her. In a recent interview she stated, “My father and mother are very happy about their only daughter’s marriage and I feel proud that I’ve been able to lighten their burden. My parents, who have been opposing my career as an actress, have finally officially granted me permission to pursue my career, so I feel that I will be an even happier bride. I will soon show my gratitude for my fans and viewers through a great drama/movie and acting”. Thanks to Alex, she’s already gotten more than enough practice in the married life. And practice makes perfect, right?

Japan loves SHINee things

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Too bad for their Korean fangirls.

SHINee is planning to to visit Japan for the first time on August 10th and host a special fan event in Tokyo. Plans for a Japanese album are also currently in the works.

Although SHINee are still rookies in the Korean music scene having only debuted one year ago, these precocious boys are already setting their sights on Japan. SM Entertainment really knows how to pump them out, and they know how to capitalize on success. They have a really good track record with Korean artists in Japan, such as BoA, DBSK, and Super Junior.

Personally, when SHINee debuted, they kind of reminded me of the Japanese group, Arashi, because of their really polished presentation and choreography. Japan will eat SHINee up; they want their talent hot blooded and versatile.

T-ara are Girls Generation copycats

Posted by Nez 0 comments

The fresh faced image isn’t so fresh anymore.

Korea is just getting a flood of new girl groups this year. I could name a whole bunch of them, but many are still in the process of training and haven’t officially debuted yet, so I’m just going to ignore them like they will be ignored in the possible future.

T-ara had a good chance of being ignored too because it seems that their debut song “Good Person” for the Cinderella Man drama OST is a ballad. There is a tendency for groups debuting with ballad singles to be overlooked by the larger Korean music industry. They may get a lot of accolade for their superb singing skills and get a lot of praise for showing “potential,” but generally, until they amp themselves up in the image department and produce some catchy fluff, they get little attention.

Good thing for T-ara though because they are conforming to what seems to sell right now: Girl’s Generation (SNSD).

Do we really need more SNSD? They haven’t even gone on a break yet, and they are already announcing ANOTHER comeback album to be released in the latter part of 2009. Honestly, all the pictures released of T-ara make them look like Kara clones, but with SNSD style. The white concept is played out, and the bright, pastel color concept of the music video for the new SeeYa, Da Vichi, and T-ara’s Park Ji-yeon joint project is not so refreshing anymore. The name of their joint digital single is roughly translated to mean “Women’s Generation / Forever Love.” Mnet Media is able to churn out really promising talent with amazing vocal abilities, but they don’t seem to be very creative in the image department.

Nonetheless, I don’t doubt T-ara in the singing department…yet. Let’s just see when they actually perform on stage. If you’re curious, here are the faces of T-ara.

G-Dragon Is a Sunflower and Tae Yang’s the Sun?

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Hi! Sorry for not introducing myself earlier. I'm poopiness. Okay glad that's done. Ahaha just kidding, I'm a new writer here at Allkpop. Two or three of you might know me from my comic strips and Youtube kpop parodies. Well, from now on I'm going to start writing here too, so expect your kpop news to mix with a little poopiness :D.

A fan’s translation of Big Bang's book Senoso revealed that G-dragon and Tae Yang are BFFs, or for the hopeful fangirls BBFs (Butt Buddies Forever) or for the defensive fangirls, “just guy love”.

G-Dragon did not hold back while complimenting his long time friend and fellow trainee Taeyang.

G-Dragon:
"I never had the chance to say this to him before but, if I had to choose one friend I want at my deathbed, I would not hesitate to choose Tae Yang. I just can't thank him enough."

Now that's some serious non-homosexual-like manly chest hair ripping man love.

G-dragon even goes as far as to make the comparison of himself being a sunflower growing and glowing under the bright “sun” (Tae Yang translates to sun in Korean).

With the recent rumors of backstabs among SeeYa members, it’s nice to see true heartwarming friendships. Other notable celebrities BFFs include Eun Hyuk (super junior) and Junsu’s (DBSK) S.M. brotherhood, KangTa-Hye Sung-Ji Joon’s love triangle, Super Junior’s Heechul and Han Kyung’s Cinderella and rich Chinese boy relationship and Jessica (SNSD) - Park Min Young’s sexy sistas bond.

Newbie Actress Woo Seung Yeon Commits Suicide

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Newbie actress Woo Seung Yeon (24) was found hung by her family on the 27th. The death is being ruled as suicide and the police have released the statement "Although there is no will found, before her death, she sent a text message to her younger sibling saying 'I'm sorry.'" She is known to have been suffering from depression after failing an audition and breaking up with a long time boyfriend. A family member revealed that she had received treatment at a hospital for her depression, but it had worsened in recent weeks and caused her to commit suicide.

Woo Seung-yeon started off as an internet uljjang, before modeling, and had even branched out into acting, appearing in the movie Herb and the mobile sitcom Yap. Her most recent role was in the movie Private Eye, which was released earlier this month. She was born in 1985 and was planning to return to return to her school, Joong Ang University where she was majoring in French Language & Culture.

In addition, her cyworld is getting attention as it was revealed that she wrote a message titled "Good-bye" on the 25th and had changed her background music to Toy's Sorry and Time Alone. Because the guest book function on her cyworld is closed, netizens have left their condolences through comments under her picture uploads.

Joo Ji Hoon’s Job Going Under

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Joo Ji Hoon's future in showbiz is becoming more and more unclear after his recent problem with drugs.

He was recently spotted for a part in the new drama Tokyo Tower opposite actress Kim Ji Soo and had even gotten to the contract signing stage. However, it is possible that the contract will be dissolved due to his involvement in the scandal.

Officials involved in the making of Tokyo Tower stated, "Although Joo Ji Hoon's casting wasn't complete, it is true that it had came down to the contract stage. We are also very shocked over this scandalous event. The producers are now seriously considering his appearance in the drama. Truthfully, wouldn't his appearance in the drama be rather difficult? But there will be no problems with the filming of the drama itself. With or without the problem of Joo Ji Hoon's scandal, we plan to keep going and will start filming by end May or early June." Even though the drama problem wasn't really mentioned earlier, it was pretty obvious that they would have difficulty casting Joo Ji Hoon in it after this.

His movies Antique Bakery is being pulled early while The Naked Kitchen is now postponed indefinitely from Japanese theaters. Even his sold out fan meetings on the 15th & 16th in Osaka and Yokohama have been canceled (read that lawsuits incoming). He really has no one else to blame but himself for this problem though. No one told him that taking drugs and getting caught was going to be helpful for his career.

Wheesung And Davichi Get Together

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Along with Super Junior's Heal The World performance, this week at Open Concert Wheesung and the girls of Davichi collaborated to perform a cover of one of my all time favorite duet songs, That Man, That Woman Feat. Jang Hye Jin by Vibe. Although Wheesung was a little off pitch in the beginning, he brought it back in the bridge and I liked the way he used his signature falsetto. This is actually Davichi's second time doing a cover of this song. I believe they are very good friends/fans of Vibe due to Vibe writing Davichi's first single I Love You, Though It's Hateful. I can't wait for the day Vibe comes back with an album.

Check It Out.

At certain parts it kind of sounds like Wheesung was trying to imitate Lee Min Soo's voice. If you don't know already, Wheesung is really talented at imitating other singer's voices.

Missing Kim Kibum Spotted

Posted by Nez 0 comments
Since the launch of Sorry Sorry and the third Super Junior album, Kim Kibum has been missing out on all the action. Last we heard, he was working on his acting skills and taking some time off for himself. Now a poster/advertisement photo floating around on the internet may shed some light on the whereabouts of the missing Kibum. The poster shows a long haired Kim Kibum dressed in bright colorful clothes and posing with actresses Lee Yeon Hee, Kim Minji, Choi Ara, and actors Yoo Seung Ho and Kim Bum from Boys Over Flowers.

Although the poster is seen throughout Seoul, fans can't figure out what this is for or where this came from. Just the words 'WE START' and the the date May 2, 2009 are printed on the poster. It has been confirmed that it is for a LG mobile phone CF.

But speculation is clear that we'll be seeing Kibum in other activities such as theater plays, movies, ads, or drama. Kim Kibum's fans are already expecting a lot out of the missing Super Junior member. Fans hope for a love story because of the actresses Kibum is posing with. Could he be headed down a path as leading romance actor?

SM officials previously had said Kibum would not be leaving SuJu and would not participate in any dramas. They still claim that his future in acting is uncertain.
Some behind the scenes. From the pictures, we can see that Yoo Seung Ho is being paired up with Lee Yeon Hee and Kim Bum with Kim Minji. There are no pictures of Kim Kibum with Choi Ara yet but it is only logical.

Super Junior Sungmin’s Magic Touch

Posted by Nez 0 comments

I know this is a little dated, but I thought it would be the perfect way to start off a Monday!

Super Junior’s flower boy Sungmin dropped jaws with his magic show on Star King. Sungmin performed with a female assistant who could only be described as “sexiness on legs.” Actually, I lied, she's also "cuteness on legs." Seriously though, that girl had the cutest eye-smile, and the jealous male guests obviously agree.

The highlight of the performance, besides the magic of course, is Sungmin’s surprisingly naughty hands. There was enough leg rubbing to make hardcore suju fangirls kick their own dogs, and choke on their own spit in anger.
Also notice Siwon's "OMGAWWD!! Did he do dat?!?" face throughout the show.

The magic itself was unexpectedly good. I don’t want to spoil the trick for you so just see if for yourself below. Though, the real magic here is that Sungmin, for once, did not look feminine. It’s easy to see why though because that girl is so hot/cute/sexy that she could trigger instant male puberty, even in females. Anyone here just hit puberty? I know I did! Don't laugh, some people get it later than others. Stop laughing!!

Big Bang Dae Sung surprised at Hite Cool Concert

Posted by Nez 1 comments

On April 26th, Big Bang performed in front of more than 5000 fans for the Hite Cool Concert at the Shin Chon Migliore Plaza in Seoul. This was a planned expected concert presented by the Korean beer company, Hite Brewery. What wasn't expected was the surprise 21st birthday celebration for Daesung. They brought out a cake for Daesung in the middle of the show and everyone sang Happy Birthday to him. Daesung donned a halo on top of his head and put some funny-man glasses on. TOP also showed off his new hair style for the drama IRIS.

Judging by the pictures it looks like everyone had a lot of fun! Happy Belated Birthday to Dae Sung!

F3 teams up with Son Dambi for Samsung

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Samsung Anycall has commissioned the F3 (Kim Bum, Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Joon) along with Son Dambi for a series of commercials titled "Haptic Mission." The premise of the commercial films is pretty simple, in the first teaser they have interviews to be picked up as an Anycall Office Worker. The second teaser is their first day at work.

For those of you asking why isn't Lee Min Ho around to make it F4, it's because Lee Min Ho supposedly has a deal with LG (Samsung's Korean Rival). I also believe these phones in the commercial are the same phones used in Boys Over Flowers, but of course it was labeled as Shinhwa in the drama. Video credits: sparkskey, jreissoi90.

Super Junior Heals The World

Posted by Nez 0 comments

Not content with merely saving energy, Super Junior has moved on to bigger and better things: saving the world. At the most recent KBS Open Concert, Super Junior lip-synched to their hit "Sorry Sorry", then whipped out a surprising cover of Michael Jackson's "Heal The World".

Even with the mediocre Engrish, it was an impressive performance - except only about half of the members actually sang. This performance brings up an issue some ELFs had with the newest album - member equality. Like most of the songs on "Sorry Sorry", the talented KRY-subgroup (Kyuhyun-Ryeowook-Yesung) received most of the limelight during the performance, while the rest of the members were reduced to finding random actions to fill up their stage-time.

As most of the Suju army sing their hearts out during the chorus (or at least pretend to), Shindong awkwardly waves around to the beat...

and Heechul, being his usual goofy self, begins faux-conducting near the end.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the horde of pop stars that is Super Junior, but it's not much of a group if some members barely sing over the course of an entire performance/album. I suppose thirteen members that can both sing and dance is too much to ask for, and for the new album, SM simply decided to highlight SuJu's strengths to the detriment of some of the less-vocally-talented members. Is sacrificing member equality for vocal quality a good move for SM? Hm.

Enough of this pop-group-dynamic philosophy, it's time to lighten the mood with a bit of what Suju does best.

Oh Ryeowook, you sly devil you - EunHyuk never saw it coming.

TVXQ, Big Bang, and Super Junior get their own TV

Posted by Nez 0 comments

TVXQ, Big Bang, and Super Junior will all get their own separate hour long TV shows on Mnet Japan.

The shows are creatively titled I Love TVXQ, I Love Big Bang and I Love Super Junior. Mnet Japan’s description of the TV programs are: “If you have never seen their work in Korea then we guarantee you’ll rediscover the charm of your favorite Kpop idols (through the “I Love” series). Watch live video, cool talk from various variety shows, plus music videos and get reintroduced to Korea’s most popular music groups.”

All three of the new shows will be broadcasted once a week on Mnet Japan. I Love TVXQ will air for six months after its premiere on Tuesday, May 12th and I Love Big Bang will run for four months after it premieres on Monday, May 18th. No decision has been made on how long I Love Super Junior will air for, but it’ll begin on Monday, June 1st in the timeslot right before I Love Big Bang.

It’s a given that TVXQ’s show will be the most popular out of the “I Love” series but, overall, I guess we’ll really find out how much Japan loves Kpop by how well these programs do. I hope in my lifetime Kpop stars become popular enough in America to have their own TV shows in the U.S. One way of becoming a celebrity overnight in the U.S. is to have a sex tape “leaked” to the public (i.e. Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian). I can help Hyori (or almost any Kpop female) make a tape if she wants to gain immediate American celebrity status. I’ve already got a night vision video camera or I'd be willing to rent a fancy boat if she'd rather do a Pam Anderson style video. Holla at ya boy Hyori and I can make it happen, oh, oh, OK.
