Taeyang Talks About Why He Won’t Shave or Cut His Hair

The release of his solo (or shall I say ‘Solar?’) album hasn’t been the only hot topic lately when it comes to Taeyang! Many observant fans noticed quite a change in his physical appearance – namely, his facial hair – and began questioning his choice to grow out what appears to be a budding beard.In response to this curiosity, the shy idol answered such questions during an interview with Newsen.

Taeyang first began by explaining how he decided (or rather, how he didn’t) to grow out his facial hair: “I’ve been spending a lot of time in the studio, so there is no [time] to take care of my appearance. Every time I go through this type of lifestyle, facial hair will grow out naturally.”


He also added that he had not heard any complaints from those close to him thus far, and so did not think that it would cause such a stir amongst VIPs: “The response I got from the people around me were pretty good, so I decided to let it grow out. I didn’t think too much about it and just walked out like that. I didn’t think it would cause such a reaction.” Smiling, he continued, “To see such a big response, I thought I should shave the beard. [Really,] the facial hair has no special meaning.”

Another popular topic of discussion lately has been Taeyang’s loyal relationship with his hairstyle. It’s been a few years since we’ve seen anything on top of the idol’s head except for a sturdy mohawk, and some people have been suggesting a change for him. In response, he gently stated that he had no plans to get a change in hairstyle: “If I’m on break for one to two years, then I might want to change my hairstyle, but right now I’ve been extremely busy so I don’t have the extra energy to consider it. Plus, I am not concerned about my appearance and do not want to change my hairstyle in the near future. For me, if it’s not a really cool or handsome hairstyle [that you ask me to look at,] then I will not consider changing it.”

It’s interesting to note how different fellow Big Bang member GDragon would respond to such a question, as the idol is rather famous for his ever-changing hairstyles! Then again, if it were GDragon, he wouldn’t even be asked this question.

Well, hair or no hair, let us continue to support the wonder that is Taeyang as he continues to need a girl both onstage and off!
