Fanclubs in war over Dream Concert seating sections

On April 22nd, tickets for the famous annual Dream Concert went on sale. Traditionally, the seats are divided up according to fanclubs. For example, one fanclub will be assigned multiple seating sections while another may only receive one.

The popular artists usually get more seating for their large number of fans. As you can probably imagine, idol groups’ fanclubs take up most of the stadium. It is not the concert staff that determines the seating; the companies of the singers decide them and then release the news to the fans. However, this doesn’t mean the fans have to sit in their sections. This is just a recommendation that most fans do end up following.

Fans have responded to the seating already,
“Is this how popular my artist is?”
“I didn’t get a seat in my artist’s section.”

As you can see, there are already complaints from fans about the seating arrangements. SM Entertainment is facing more trouble though.

SNSD fans, SONES, got notified that they would be seated in the L, M, N and P sections. For Super Junior ELFs, there will be three times the amount of seating.

SNSD fans wrote,
“I have no idea what they base off the seating arrangements from.”
“Please rearrange the seating according to popularity please.”
“If SNSD seats get sold out, we should take SuJu’s seats.”

Super Junior fans wrote,
“Our sections are not enough anyways.”
“Please buy your tickets accordingly to your section.”

Lee Hyori and Rain got the first sections and Wonder Girls got the second. Fans are also angry over this matter. Since all three artists have just returned to the K-pop scene, some fans believe more active groups should get the better seats.

Korea Entertainment Producers Association said, “We decided on the seating after taking in the requests from fanclubs and entertainment companies. That doesn’t mean certain fans are forced to sit in their artist’s section. We expect the fans to support this event for the 16th year in a row. We are always ready for the fights between the fans.”

One fanclub leader said, “Dream Concert is a huge event that has more meaning because of the fact that fans can come together. If we don’t have sections, the event could be a disaster.”

2010 Dream Concert Encounters Problems

“SNSD only gets 3 sections? We’re more popular … Why do we have less number of seats than Super Junior fans?”

A month before the 2010 Dream Concert is to be held on May 22, tensions are already rising.

At the Dream Concert, many popular artists come to the same venue and perform, making it unique. Since it only comes once a year, this is seen as an opportunity for fans to give their favorite singers strength, becoming one. On April 22, tickets went on sale at 7PM and were sold out within one hour, as a result of fans who wanted to go support their favorite singers.

Instead, problems are arising with the division of seats. At first, there isn’t any assigned seating arrangement for fans of one artist. Instead, the organizers contact the entertainment companies, assigning them sections so the the entertainment companies can report this to the respective fan clubs through their official websites.

Fan clubs that receive less sections argue, “Is the singer whom I love so much only worth this much? The division of seats are not a true reflection of the total fan club members.”

SNSD fans have been assigned sections A~C for the Dream Concert, while label mates Super Junior received thrice the amount of seats.

Although it is stated, “Please book your seats in these sections,” it is actually stating that fans of a certain artist are assigned to that section. SS501’s official website stated, “Regions S~X have been assigned to us.”

After all the tickets for the Dream Concert have been purchased, fans create an online message board war. Some SNSD fansites requested for their seats to be reassigned since fans “didn’t know how they were divided”. Four fansites told fans to sit in Super Junior’s section if there wasn’t enough room, making Super Junior fans complain that there weren’t enough seats for them. ELFs also responded saying,“It’s only correct to book according to the assigned seats. Please maintain order.”

Meanwhile, fans of Lee Hyori and Rain only have one section each. Wonder Girls have two sections. Fans aren’t content with their seat arrangements.

In response to these arguments, organizers stated,

We have only followed the requests from the fan clubs and the companies. There are no rules saying that only fans of particular artists can sit in any given one area. If there are requests beforehand, we would take those into consideration but there is no need for us to assign certain regions. We have been doing this event for 16 years and thanks to the stability of the fandom culture, we are hoping that we get lots of support. We will always be ready for any fights that may break out between fans at the concert.

One fan club member worriedly posted, “In a concert like Dream Concert, we are not there to see the singers but to support them with other fans. If the entertainment company and the fan club cannot control the amount of seats they get, the fights over seats that may break out can turn into a battle of emotions and turn the site into chaos.”

Dream Concert performance line-up for 2010 announced!

Korea’s Dream Concert is undoubtedly an event of epic proportions for kpop fans – with nearly twenty of Korea’s hottest artists performing on one stage in front of an audience that’s 40,000 members strong. For 2010, Dream Concert has been scheduled to take place at the Seoul World Cup Stadium next month on May 22, and will be taped for future broadcast by SBS.

This year’s line-up was revealed by a Japanese source, and it officially includes…

Presale for Korean attendees begins in two weeks, and Japanese fans can already apply from now until April 14 through the Hallyu Fan Card.

Remember the photo which Sulli of f(x) posted on her Me2Day not too long ago, showing SM Family love, backstage at the recent 2009 Dream Concert? Well, we have more of that display courtesy of SM Entertainment who is finally making good use of Youtube.

Girl Group Maknaes Backstage at Dream Concert

The girl group maknaes have proven to us time and time again how close they are, but Krystal of f(x) just wanted to make sure you knew these girls are seriously best friends forever. Krystal updated her me2day recently with polaroids of the maknaes backstage at the Dream Concert. I know they all look so cute and innocent but I bet they're a force to reckon with! TVXQ not attending Dream Concert 2009, 2PM to attend

On September 9th, the Korean Entertainment Producers Association released a document to all attendees of the concert and to the general public.

Here's what it said:

1. Thank you for showing much interest towards 2009 DREAM Concert.
2. Korean Entertainment Producers Association will become organizer of 2009 DREAM Concert.
As was reported in Japan, TVXQ lawsuit has already been gathering a lot of attention.
About this unforeseen incident, Korean Entertainment Producers Association and SM Entertainment has been having discussions in regard to former performers matter, and currently meet in the decision that under present condition, starring TVXQ in the concert is very difficult, therefore for everyone who is looking forward to TVXQ performance, we’re really sorry and sincerely apologize.
3. However, the possibility performance still depends upon the trial result of Korean Court. By that time, we’ll officially announce the decision yet again.
Because the 2009 DREAM concert is Korean biggest concert, we would like you to enjoy the stage of splendid artists whom Korea is proud of at Sangnam World Cup Stadium, South Korea.
4. As an addition, we’d like to inform you that BIG BANG will perform with no problem.
5. We’re so pleased with everyone who had been working hard to prepare for DREAM Concert, thank you very much.


In other words...

TVXQ will not attend Dream Concert 2009.

All other artists who were planning on attending, will attend without issue including:

Big Bang, SNSD / Girls' Generation, Super Junior, 2PM, SHINee, 4 Minute, 2NE1, and others.

Of course the standout there is that 2PM has plans to attend and perform.

Dream is copying Slam Dunk?

Well, not quite, but SBS failure (?), Dream has been gathering some attention, or rather Kim Bum because of his character's similarity with the manga, Slam Dunk's main character, Hanamichi Sakuragi. Sure the sport, the looks, the environment they grew up in are all different, but they both have the 'dense-only-lives-for-sports-' type of character. Their characters believe that they are geniuses, have a never-ending supply of confidence, are honest, and short-tempered. And lastly, they start living in their own world when it comes to their love interest, Jang Suk (Kim Bum) towards So Yeon (Son Dambi) and Hanamichi Sakuragi towards Haruko Akagi.

In my opinion, basically all Korean dramas have a main male character that is either super arrogant, or just really dense and sweet. Looks more like a ploy to get attention for this drama than any real substantial similarities. What do you think? Fantasy or fact?

2009 Dream Concert date confirmed

Some of Kpop scene’s biggest names like Dong Bang Shin Ki, Big Bang, So Nyeo Shi Dae, WonderGirls will be coming together to perform on one stage.

‘2009 Dream Concert’ will be held coming 10th October in Seoul SangAmDong Seoul World Cup stadium.

Dream Concert is a yearly tradition which started in 1995, and is a glamorous stage featuring Kpop’s biggest acts.

And for this year, though not all the details are confirmed, it is said that there are high chances that artistes like Dong Bang Shin Ki, Big Bang, Super Junior and 2PM for male singers and So Nyeo Shi Dae and WonderGirls for female singers will be performing for the concert.

Especially for WonderGirls who have been recently performing on Jonas Brothers’ concert tour will want to make use of this stage to meet up with their Korean fans whom they have been missing out for a while.

Even thought we see the music festivals that Korea’s 3 biggest broadcast companies will hold every year end, it will be hard to see all the biggest Kpop names together on one stage since they are busy with their overseas activities and promotions.

And the aim for ‘2009 Dream Concert’ will be to bring all these biggest stars together on one stage. Also previously in May, KMP (Korea Music Power) project has taken place with the participation of SM, JYP and YG Entertainment to “make Dream Concert the best performing stage” supporting their artistes’ participation for this concert.

Currently each of the artistes’ companies have said, “There is still so much time left to the concert itself. We are currently talking to the sponsors before confirming if they are really going to perform for the concert.” they will be carefully monitoring the response to the concert.

While on Dream Concert’s side, “Even we have not confirm who will be performing, we want to make this one of the biggest performing concert in history and be proud of it.”

I believe that no matter how glamorous the concert will be, what is more important is the safety of the teenagers who are going to attend the concert. Past years experiences have told us clear enough
